Serenity Ranch is the home of Precious Criations Alpacas. Home to over 30 Huacaya Alpacas and one spoiled rotten Golden Retriever named Charlie.
We are a small Ranch specializing in quality Huacayas. Looking for Suri Alpacas? Our Daughter and Son-in-law own Yes Suri Alpacas, located just 15 minutes east of us in Thurmont, Maryland.
We started our connection with Alpacas one weekend in 2002; our Son-in-law was eager to have animals on their farm of 3 years. They had found Alpacas on the internet - until then I am not sure we had even seen an Alpaca. It was important to them to have farm animals that were safe for their young family and maintainable for our daughter.
We found ourselves part of a ride-a-long, just there to help with the children. We visited four farms in four weekends; at the end of the second farm visit we were interested in what Alpaca’s could offer us – a tax break. The third visit and we were talking about investing in Alpacas, too.
Our daughter liked Suris and we liked Huacayas, our search now turned to finding a farm that had both types of Alpacas. It had to be a larger farm so we could have several Alpacas to choose from, but we still wanted to work with an owner, not an employee. We found Shasta Springs Alpacas(www.shastaspringsalpacas.com), in Pennsylvania, and started our friendship with Page Nutterhouse. She focused on our questions, and shared her experiences and knowledge with the ease and grace that we have come to know as ‘just Page’.
We started with a foundation herd of 3 maidens and our daughter started with 2 bred females, 1 maiden and a young male. It took forever for our maidens to reach the age of breeding; then we waited the 11½ months for our first cria. With the birth of that first cria we knew the correct answer to that repetitive, haunting question all of our friends were asking. You know, that one question you get when you start anything new. WHY?
Why Alpacas? For the love of Crias. The creation of a Alpaca baby (cria) takes 11 ½ months. Once a year! The anticipation of a new cria can seem overwhelmingly long. If we only knew what color…if only we could catch a quick peek! When the day finally arrives your heart and soul dance’s with every waiting second. How could we not love what we are doing! With every new arrival comes a precious creation.
Our herd was located on our Daughter’s farm for our first 4 years. With the grateful assistance of our Daughter, and her family, in our early years, we have been able to put together a quality herd of both Huacaya and Suri Alpacas. We now have our own farm and more than twenty beautiful Huacaya Alpacas.
Our herds are still growing but we're still two small farms, and because of this we choose every breeding very carefully to improve on each generation. We are committed to a breeding program of quality, focusing on solid conformation, good disposition and increasingly superior fleece.
We have expanded our foundation herd and are happy to announce that we now have Alpacas to sell. With our move to the new farm we can provide adjisting (boarding); and our newly completed barn and fenced pastures are just the sanctuary your Alpacas need for stress free living.
